As believers in Christ, you and I are called to walk in freedom. The trouble is, there are two pitfalls that are easy for us to fall into. They are legalism and license—two ditches on either side of the road of freedom.

I wonder which you’re more prone toward?

If you feel the pressure of needing to be good enough, of ticking your spiritual checklist each day—then legalism is your greatest risk.

But maybe you’re so tired of trying to do the right thing that you give in too easily to sin (after all, Jesus will forgive you, right?).

The wonderful news of Jesus is that His grace lifts you out of both these ditches—and sets you on the road of freedom once again.

Let me point you to one verse where you’ll find three truths to keep you in the freedom of Christ:

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

You have been crucified with Christ—you died to sin.

Christ lives in you—you’re indwelt.

Now you live by faith in the Son of God—you’re depending on Him!

I pray you’ll discover a deeper dependence on Jesus in the days ahead, so that 2019 will be a year in which you walk in the freedom of Christ and enjoy the adventure of the grace-filled Life!
