The Devoted Life of Daniel

Although the Book of Daniel was written centuries ago, it has a message for us living in the 21st century. The prophet Daniel lived in broken, difficult, and dramatically changing times. Yet despite his circumstances, God called him to live wisely and well in the world, without becoming defiled by it. Not an easy task, but one that we all face as Christians.

As disciples of Jesus, we are called to be God's agents in the world. How do we obey and glorify the Lord and remain in the world, but not be of it? Where do we draw the line when culture collides with our Christian principles?

In this series, Stuart Briscoe explores how Daniel was called, commissioned, and empowered by God to live steadfastly and effectively in a tough environment—to the pleasure of his God and the blessing of His people.

No matter how high a person may be elevated and no matter how celebrated a person may be, that person must sooner or later come to terms with the fact that the Lord is the MOST HIGH. Like Nebuchadnezzar, everybody needs to hear Him say, "I'm God. And you're not!"

5. The Writing on the Wall message info

Have you ever seen "the handwriting on the wall"? What did you do? Belshazzar knew about Nebuchadnezzar's experience, but he chose to ignore it. He surpassed his predecessor in the behavior that had led to his downfall. The writing was on the wall for him long before the fingers of a human hand appeared. We should take note!

Daniel was disciplined in prayer and dedicated to the study of "the Word of the Lord." He knew that in the Word, God speaks to His people, then in prayer we offer our response. The Word should stimulate prayer and prayer should reflect the Word.

10. The Great War message info

Daniel's final visionary experience revealed to him something of the intensity of the spiritual conflict behind world events. But it also reminded him of the awesome power of the heavenly forces and the certainty of God's ultimate triumph. He wins "the great war."

11. The Time of the End message info

Daniel's great vision ended with him learning many astonishing things. He did not understand everything because the information concerned the near and distant future, but he was greatly encouraged. We, too, do not understand it all, but we can be encouraged.
