Disarming the Darkness

Pete Briscoe

"There is no neutral ground in the universe; every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan." C. S. Lewis

You're under attack, even if you don't realize it. It sometimes comes in a whisper that says, "You'll never be good enough," or "God won't forgive THAT," or "No one is looking. Go ahead."

Other times the attack comes with great force and knocks you down—an unfaithful spouse or a medical crisis. Behind these attacks is a vicious enemy who hates you simply because you are precious to God.

The Bible says this enemy, Satan, roams back and forth in the earth looking for whom he can devour. Those are scary words, but if you are a believer, you don't have to fear them! Satan is no match for Jesus—or for us when we have Christ living in us!

Pete Briscoe teaches on the serious subject of spiritual warfare in this series on the armor of God and how these spiritual weapons can protect us from Satan's schemes and lies as we wait for Jesus to return. For now, we live in a spiritual battleground, but we can rejoice because Jesus has already secured the ultimate victory!

Scripture:Ephesians 6

Messages From This Series:

  1. 1. A Defeated Foe

    Pete Briscoe

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes." (Eph. 6:11)

Ever feel like you've been under attack? Like Satan and his demons are unrelenting in their assault on your life? It can feel overwhelming and disheartening, and we can easily lose hope. But if we are in Christ, we have an "unconventional" weapon in our arsenal—the name of Jesus! And we must remember that because of Jesus' work on the cross Satan is a powerless, defeated foe!

    Scripture:  Ephesians 6:10 - 6:13

  2. 2. The Belt of Truth

    Pete Briscoe

I deserve better than this. I don't have enough. No one will ever know. Ever had these kinds of thoughts? These are all examples of the lies Satan tells us. We've learned that Satan is a defeated foe, powerless to harm those who are in Christ, but he is active in trying to deceive us, getting us to believe these kinds of lies. How are we to protect ourselves against the subtle deceptions of the deceiver?

    Scripture:  Ephesians 6:14

  3. 3. The Breastplate of Righteousness

    Pete Briscoe

All of humanity has a problem: unrighteousness. Ever since Adam and Eve realized their unrighteousness and used fig leaves to try to cover up their nakedness, we've been trying to make our own fig-leaf coverings. However, when we put our faith in Christ, He removes our filthy rags of unrighteousness and clothes us in His righteousness. So why do we still see ourselves as unrighteous, and how can we "stand firm with the breastplate of righteousness in place"?

    Scripture:  Ephesians 6:14

  4. 4. Standing on the Gospel

    Pete Briscoe

If you were asked what the "gospel" or "good news" is, what would you say? In Ephesians 6, Paul tells us to "stand firm in the gospel." But what exactly is the gospel? Many of us might say the gospel is that Jesus died for our sins. While the cross is part of it, the whole gospel is so much more! And if we want to "stand firm" in the gospel, we need to understand what it is, so that we can stand firm against Satan's assault of lies.

    Scripture:  Ephesians 6:15

  5. 5. The Shield of Faith

    Pete Briscoe

We exercise faith every day—from the chair we sit in to the car we drive. We put our faith and trust in many things. So why is it so hard for us to put our trust in Jesus, the only one who is completely trustworthy? Why do we put our faith in works-based salvation, human tradition, or other "hollow and deceptive philosophies" instead of Jesus, who freely gives us the gift of salvation by grace through faith? When we put our faith in Jesus, He is our shield and protector from Satan's deception. When Jesus is our shield, we don't need to worry because we have everything we need.

    Scripture:  Ephesians 6:16

  6. 7. The Sword and Prayer

    Pete Briscoe

When you think of soldiers on a battlefield, you don't often think of those soldiers on their knees in prayer. But that is exactly how spiritual battles are fought—and won! God has given us two incredible weapons: the Bible and prayer. When we live in the Holy Spirit, he uses these weapons in powerful ways in our lives, teaching us new things, bringing to mind what we may have forgotten, and leading us where He wants us to go.

    Scripture:  Ephesians 6:17 - 6:20
