Through the media ministry of Telling the Truth we send the dynamic biblical teachings of Stuart and Jill Briscoe, and their selected guests, around the world. Through almost 500 radio stations, Sirius XM, website, YouTube, apps, Apple & Google podcasts, social media, and in print the message of Jesus is shared. And God changes lives.

The Director of Communications position, who reports to the Executive Director, has a mission-critical role. In team collaboration, the right individual provides vision, leadership, and content for our constituent communications. This person is the communication leader and gatekeeper for Telling the Truth who ensures consistency and on-message excellence, consistency, and integrity in all that we say.

Position Responsibilities Overview

  • Reports to the Executive Director, and works in collaboration with our broadcasting, development, and finance teams, as well as our strategic consulting partners

  • Develop integrated communication plans and strategies throughout the ministry

  • Work directly as the overseer and gatekeeper and developer of communications in both content and graphic design, overseeing materials to ensure excellent and consistent messaging across all platforms

  • Direct the Communications Team of writers and graphic designers, maximizing effectiveness

  • Oversee and write, direct, create, edit, proof, providing support for Development, Broadcast, and Financial/Operations teams, and the Executive Director. This includes themes, content, graphic design, message and series descriptions, newsletters, premium and pastoral letters, promotions, development campaigns, annual reports, and more

  • Direct and oversee the coordination of the distribution of communication across all media channels including website, partner websites, social media, FTP sites and apps, utilizing various content management systems

  • Direct, oversee, and expand the success of social media platforms, mobile app, web development and strategy, and affiliated websites—tagging content, performing ongoing content updates, and interacting with website partners

  • Oversee writing of teaser and headline copy; proofread and edit copy

  • Develop and oversee digital written content for successful social media utilization

  • Track and interpret online and broadcast analytics, suggest adjustments, improve, and improve user experience

  • Direct research and make recommendations for emerging online and digital communication technologies that will support the organization’s mission, build engagement, and increase listener/donor support

  • Oversee media metrics to support and facilitate wise decision making in broadcasting, advertising, and development messaging

  • Collaborate with outside consultants to assure excellence and consistency in our strategies, plans, content, and graphic design in communications to achieve ministry goals

  • Prepare, direct, and monitor the department’s operating budget to stay within budget

  • Prepare presentations, charts, graphs, and similar material for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other leaders as needed

  • Other projects and research as directed by the Executive Director and Board of Directors


Professional Qualifications Overview

  • Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of leadership experience, including managing people who are direct reports, with a focus on communications, marketing, public relations, or the equivalent

  • A demonstrated understanding of the priorities, culture, and success metrics of a nonprofit broadcast and online media organization is preferred

  • Experience in leadership and collaboration in broadcast and development campaigns is preferred

  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills to all levels of audiences

  • Excellent business acumen skills

  • Experience in leading and managing people, projects, and resources, preferably in non-profits

  • Experience in digital content and social media platforms

  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint are required; Photoshop experience helpful

  • Familiarity with databases, email clients, and Content Management System software, queries, and reporting

  • Ability to quickly learn and embrace new technology and tasks

  • Flexibility to pivot and make changes that are important to the organization

  • Must have the leadership mindset of a team player who is collaborative, resourceful, with a can-do tenacity to accomplish goals

Work Environment

Due to the strategic team nature of the role, this position works on-site in the office of Telling the Truth in Brookfield, WI. Limited travel may be necessary on occasion.
