Overview

Telling the Truth is an international radio and online media ministry, headquartered in Brookfield, WI. We broadcast on almost 500 stations the teaching of two uniquely-gifted communicators, Stuart and Jill Briscoe—and their guests. Our goal is to help people know Christ and experience Life in all its fullness.

We are seeking a Finance & Operations Manager, reporting to the Executive Director, to join our team of devoted Christians who are on this mission together. We are looking for a gifted, skilled, and experienced individual who will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the ministry’s finances and operations.

The right individual will possess expertise in accounting and financial skills, leadership, administrative, and project management skills. This leader will be responsible to oversee all aspects of our finances and general office operations, including human resources, IT, contracts, office facilities, and related operational business matters.

Accounting & Finance

  • Assure sound financial management and fiscal responsibility for the ministry

  • Oversee financial management and all accounting functions and systems, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payables, inventory, month-end and adjusting journal entries, and banking operations

  • Supervise the preparation and filing of the necessary government forms (state registrations, tax returns, etc.), annual audit, and IRS 990 documentation in conjunction with attorneys and auditors

  • Be responsible for and oversee the budget and daily cash flow, keeping the Executive Director and leadership team apprised of variances to actual results

  • Work with outsourced financial service providers as appropriate

  • Prepare and analyze the budget and monthly financial statements for the Executive Director and leadership teams

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and prepare, analyze, and present financial reports to the Board of Directors

  • Maintain financial accountability in accordance with accounting standards for non-profit organizations

  • Administer and maintain contracts, leases, and insurance policies and coverage, reviewing regularly as appropriate

  • This is a hands-on role that will interact with leadership on strategy, while overseeing and executing tactics

 

Operations & Office Management

  • Oversee human resource management: Establish and update personnel policies and procedures; Provide and support leadership in staff performance reviews/evaluations; Establish/maintain personnel files; Develop/maintain job descriptions; Develop and administer staff benefits; Stay abreast of industry standards for wages/benefits; Recruit new or replacement staff and volunteers

  • Oversee data entry, direct and product mailouts, and similar projects

  • Oversee IT functions including management of website development, updates, support, setting IT policy, hardware/software acquisitions and support, oversee data backup and archiving

  • Develop and implement organization-wide operations’ processes, protocols, standards, and procedures to maximize our workflow and efficiencies

  • Oversee all web-based work platforms and their utilization by the staff

  • Work with outsourced operations service providers as appropriate

  • Prepare operational metric presentations, charts, graphs, and such for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and leaders

  • Prepare the data content for the annual ministry impact report

  • Oversee purchasing, office maintenance, troubleshooting, repair of all equipment, furniture, software, office supplies, raw materials, printing needs, and such

  • Lead, assist, and/or facilitate staff meetings and event planning, preparation, set-up and take-down, and travel needs, as appropriate

  • Other projects and research as directed by Executive Director, Board of Directors, and in support of the communications, development, and broadcasting teams

 

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or related studies

  • Seven or more years of business or non-profit related experience with a focus on general management and finance in an equivalent role

  • Demonstrated accounting and finance experience, with an understanding in setting up and managing those procedures

  • Supervisory and project management experience

  • Experience in planning, initiating, and executing all accounting, finance, and operations activities with minimal supervision

  • Additional experience with IT and human resources is preferred

  • Expertise with Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office Suite administration

  • Experience with QuickBooks Online accounting and payroll platform a plus

  • Experience with databases and collaborative web-based work platforms for generating queries and project management

  • Experience setting up, analyzing, and adjusting operating practices such as record keeping systems, forms control, policies and procedures, office layout, etc.

  • Understanding of business measurement methods, and the difference between financial and non-financial impact and metrics, and why the difference is relevant

  • Direct and manage activities of part-time support staff and service providers

  • Ability to quickly learn, embrace, and teach new technology and tasks

  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills to all levels of an organization

  • Excellent people skills

  • Strong business acumen skills

  • Flexibility to pivot and make changes, as deemed necessary by leadership

  • Must have the leadership mindset of a team player who is collaborative, resourceful, with a can-do tenacity to accomplish goals

  • Private sector experience is highly applicable to this position, non-profit experience a plus

Work Environment

Due to the strategic team nature of the role, this position works on-site in the office of Telling the Truth in Brookfield, WI. Limited travel may be necessary on occasion.

This position offers a competitive base salary and heath care stipend commensurate with experience, and a benefits package that includes a 401k plan with employer match, group dental and vision insurance, group life insurance, and paid vacation and holidays.
