Have you seen the painting of Jesus carrying a lamb on His shoulders? Jesus is much, much more than that. But there are so many caricatures of Christ all around us that lead many to think Jesus was simply a teacher, a martyr, or a gentle and meek sheep-hugger.

My point is this: If you have an incomplete understanding of who Jesus is, your faith will be timid and tentative. But knowing the truth will help you trust Him completely. Look at what Hebrews 1:2-3 reveals about Jesus’ real identity:

[God] has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

And speaking of Jesus, the Father also says in verse 8:

“Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever...”

That tells us the Son of God sits in power. The Son of God reigns. When you start to understand that Jesus is in charge and you start to live as though it’s true, guess what happens? Your faith grows, and a boldness starts to take over because you know who your God is.

How would your life be different this week if you lived as though Jesus were in charge? I know this might shock you—but if Jesus is in charge, that means you and I are not.

Now, for those of us who are used to being in charge, this is a little difficult to swallow. But the truth is, Jesus is the ultimate authority in our universe. And this Jesus who reigns in heaven also lives within you by His Spirit—ever-present and all-powerful to help you live a bolder, more buoyant Life in Him.

When you know who Jesus really is, you can rest in knowing this: your loving Shepherd is also the Creator and King who will lift you on His shoulders and carry you through—today and forever.
