Freed by Forgiveness

Stuart, Jill, and Pete Briscoe

Most people have someone they need to forgive. Even as you read this, it's likely that someone has come to your mind. You might not want to forgive that person or even think you can. The offense might be a small slight or an agonizing betrayal.

This compilation by Stuart, Jill, and Pete will meet you where you are and give you practical tools and powerful reasons to forgive.

  • Pete teaches four steps to forgiving someone, as seen in Joseph's life.
  • Stuart points to Jesus' words on why we are instructed to forgive.
  • Jill teaches from the story of David and Bathsheba, focusing on how we can turn from our own mistakes and ask for forgiveness.

Forgiving other people isn't easy, and it doesn't come naturally. But when you truly release them, you'll discover it's you who becomes free.

Messages From This Series:

  1. 1. He Forgives Me

    Jill Briscoe

No sin is bigger than God's forgiveness and mercy. There will be consequences for sin, but the love of God is the kind of unconditional love that shows mercy when the object of its love lies prostrate and repentant. David learned this when he sinned against God with Bathsheba, he learned the weight of guilt. He also learned that God's mercy is an attribute of His unfailing love.

In this message Jill Briscoe teaches us the importance of letting God love us by letting Him forgive us.

    Scripture:  Psalm 103:4

  2. 2. What Did Jesus Say About Forgiveness?

    Stuart Briscoe

How would you feel if someone cancelled all your debt right now? Mortgage, car payments, student loans, hospital bills—all of it, washed clean. You'd be pretty relieved, right? And you'd probably be pretty expressive and exuberant when it comes to showing your gratitude.

Now if I tell you that Jesus has cancelled all your sin debt, are you feeling as grateful? The truth is that we can't fully understand forgiveness until we understand our sin—what needs to be forgiven! When Jesus joined Simon the Pharisee for a meal, He encountered a woman of "doubtful reputation" who understood just how much sin debt she had and used her tears and hair to wipe Jesus' feet as a way to show her gratitude for all the forgiveness she was receiving.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe walks us through Jesus' dinner with Simon and the parable of the two debtors, and encourages us to consider what sins we might be holding onto.

    Scripture:  Luke 7:36 - 7:50

  3. 3. I Forgive You

    Pete Briscoe

Forgiving someone who has caused hurt can be a difficult, even painful thing. Joseph knew that in order to forgive someone who has caused deep emotional pain you have to rely on God to change your heart from bitterness to grace. Even though the emotional hurt that Joseph experienced was inflicted on him by his own family, miraculously, God helped Joseph's last words to his brothers be, "I forgive you."

In this message Pete Briscoe explains how the steps to biblical forgiveness that Joseph modeled for us in Genesis can help you reach a place of forgiveness, too.

    Scripture:  Genesis 37 , Genesis 45 , Genesis 50
